Why PCU for Paint Protection?
PCU Paint Protection Film uses polycarbonate-based polyurethane material for automotive paint-protection applications.
The PCU PPF range is designed to combine:
- Flexible PCU film construction
- Fast self-healing surface performance
- Optical clarity
- Weather resistance
- Resistance to yellowing and appearance degradation
- Multiple film thickness options for different protection requirements
All three available PCU PPF grades provide self-healing performance in which minor scratches can recover within 4 seconds at 50°C ±1°C under the specified test condition.
Actual overall performance still depends on the selected product grade, complete film construction, installation quality and service environment.
How to Choose PCU Paint Protection Film
Choose PCU PPF according to the protection area, film thickness, vehicle geometry and required performance.
1. Confirm the Protection Area
Determine whether the application requires:
- Selected high-risk area protection
- Partial vehicle protection
- Full vehicle paint protection
2. Select the Film Thickness
Available PCU face-film thicknesses include:
- 150μm – VTB1551E
- 180μm – VTB1851E
- 200μm – VTB2051E
Film thickness should be considered together with flexibility, installation requirements and complete product construction rather than used as the only selection criterion.
3. Evaluate the Vehicle Geometry
Consider whether the application includes:
- Flat body panels
- Gentle curves
- Bumpers
- Mirrors
- Compound curves
- Complex vehicle contours
Sample installation is recommended for demanding automotive surfaces.
4. Review Self-Healing Performance
All three PCU PPF grades provide the following tested self-healing performance:
Minor scratches can recover within 4 seconds at 50°C ±1°C.
Self-healing performance applies to minor surface scratches rather than deep cuts or damage through the film.
5. Confirm Other Technical Requirements
Review the selected model's:
- PCU face-film thickness
- Adhesive layer thickness
- Release liner
- Modulus or flexibility data where available
- Other required performance data
6. Test Before Bulk Application
Sample testing on the actual automotive paint surface is recommended before bulk purchasing or large-scale installation.
Self-Healing Surface Performance
Fast self-healing is a common performance feature across the current YG Group PCU Paint Protection Film range.
The following models provide the same specified self-healing performance:
- VTB1551E – 150μm
- VTB1851E – 180μm
- VTB2051E – 200μm
Under the specified test condition:
Minor scratches can recover within 4 seconds at 50°C ±1°C.
Self-healing applies to minor scratches on the film surface.
Performance may still be affected by factors such as:
- Scratch depth
- Surface temperature
- Film condition
- Environmental conditions
Deep cuts, punctures or damage through the film should not be expected to recover through self-healing.
